Preserving the Culture Within depicts the weathered shutters of New Orleans’ Preservation Hall, where generations of music and cultural tradition have endured since 1961. Scratched names and markings left in the wood evoke the countless visitors who have stood outside, leaned against these doors and waited to enter.

Created entirely from fiber, the work embraces the peeling paint, rust and imperfections of the aging façade as traces of time and human presence. The closed shutters suggest something precious held within—music, memory and a living cultural legacy.

The doors may weather. The culture within endures.
